not sure if the doc's on ch4s catch up service but it covered them on their tour of Latin america. well worth a watch, its called Rolling Stones : Ole Ole Ole!
I know they get paid a lot to carry on but you still have to admire their longevity

I have always liked the Stones but I think the fact that an album of blues covers they knocked together just playing around in a couple of days has got such a positive reaction probably says more about the other turgid stuff they have knocked out since Tattoo You.
Which is 35 years ago!

I like the Stones but I'm not all that struck on this album
Their best album was Exile on Main Street which was probably one of the greatest rock albums ever made
Some Girls was pretty good too
John Mayall always had top lead guitarists in his hands Eric Clapton, Peter Green & Mike Taylor to name a few
I always thought the Stones were at their best when Mike Taylor was on lead but Ronnie Wood was a superb replacement when he left
Keith Richards is a highly underated guitarist but almost as appalling a singer as Paul McCartney (which is pretty bloody awful)

Mate of mine is a good mate of Mick Taylor. Said he went to a stones gig with him about 10 years ago and the rest of the stones treated Taylor like a long lost brother. Shows how much respect they had for him.

Exile on Main St was possibly their greatest work but generally I didnt like the Mick Taylor Stones - too many looooong guitar solos. More of a pre-Let it Bleed fan: Short dancy stuff. Thats why I was so ready for Punk

Run out of energy and ideas so they are just copying black music, The Blues once againn just how they started in the 69s.
Totally unoriginal are overated.

It's quite good, probably best not to overthink it - it's just some old blokes who knocked up an album of covers in a few days. It's half decent. If you dont like the Stones or get upset that white people are doing 'black' music then it's probably not for you, so why did you read this thread?

Best album for years, really enjoyed it, plus Clapton plays on 2 tracks, just because he was next door recording something of his own and popped in.
Not over produced, just sounded like they were having fun.
